Scuba

Tom has been bugging us for a while to become certified scuba divers.  He did it while he was in college (before he met me) and every time we travel to a good diving place he waxes eloquent about how wonderful it would be if we could dive as a family.  We finally pooled our resources and took the plunge  (ha, ha, punny).  Taylor, Miriya and I have been doing a crash course.  We did a whole bunch of work online and then over the past 3 days have spent 4 hours in a swimming pool.  Today was the first day that we actually tried it in open water.  Where do you dive in Ohio?  Well, there are many old rock quarries that are filled with fresh water.  Some of them are over 200 feet deep.  We obviously don't dive that deep but we did get down to 30 feet today.  We saw some boat wrecks and old porta potties that have been sunk in order for divers to explore.  We also saw lots of sunfish.  The other group that was certifying saw fresh water jellyfish.  We didn't see them but we will be going out again tomorrow to finish our certification.  Hopefully we will see them too. 

Here is a picture of Taylor practicing in the pool.  He had some trouble with the pressure equalization in his ears but finally figured it out. 

Here are Miriya and Taylor with all their gear on just before we got into the quarry.  It is HEAVY.  It is amazing how light it becomes when you are in the water.  Yes, we are wearing wetsuits.  Although the air is 80 degrees this weekend, the water is 65.  It's really not too bad in the wetsuit. 

Can't wait until we can see some tropical fish!
