New Years

Well, our New Year's celebration was a bit on the dull side. What with a new baby that wakes you up every 2 hours all night long, why wait up until midnight just to kiss your honey? If Nick is sleeping I will kiss Tom good night and go to sleep myself. Anyway, as for our celebration, Beverly was in town so we took her down to Kentucky to see the sites. Bev seems to like horses and horse racing quite a bit so we went to the Kentucky Horse Park where they stable many of the horses that race in the Kentucky Derby. Unfortunately, the Horse Park was closed. I was suprised at this turn of events because I thoroughly researched the website before we left and it did not say anywhere that it was closed on New Year's Eve. We did manage to visit the Man of War memorial and read about his life. It was interesting, especially the part where they talked about embalming him and then burying his body beneath the statue. That must have been one large hole! After that we went to the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln. It is a log cabin that has been enshrined within a marble monument. It is run by the national park service so it is a pretty good display that talks about Lincoln and his early life. The have a small area for kids with Lincoln Logs. It was all we could do to pull Isaac away from that area. The picture is of all of us in front of the Lincoln birthplace. Nicholas is in the picture, in the back part of the stroller where you can't see him. Oh well...
